Annual Preservation Celebration Announced
Tom Clynes, contributing editor for National Geographic Adventure, to
be featured speaker

Traverse City, Michigan-- The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy's annual Preservation Celebration will be held Friday, July 24th. This year the celebration will be held at Bowers Harbor Inn from 5:30 - 9:00 PM. Tom Clynes, journalist, photographer, and contributing editor for National Geographic Adventure will be the keynote speaker.

Clynes has traveled around the world to report on environmental issues, science, and adventure travel. In a stunningly visual presentation, he will bring Conservancy friends and supporters along "on assignment" to the ends of the Earth. He'll recount some of the dramatic conservation stories he's covered in Africa, California, and the South Pacific, and preview a new article he's developing on the outlook for
wilderness in Alaska's vast TongassNational Forest.

This year also marks the 20-year anniversary of the purchase and preservation of the first farm property on OldMissionPeninsula with the help of the American Farmland Trust. This purchase set the stage for PeninsulaTownship's PDR program, which became an essential tool in land preservation. At the Preservation Celebration, the Conservancy will honor some of the original farmers and community leaders who were the pioneers of the Peninsula's farmland protection program, as well as recognize those who are leading new landscape-level farmland protection efforts on the other side of the bay in AcmeTownship.

The annual Preservation Celebration provides an opportunity for friends and supporters of the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and others who value the natural, scenic and farmlands of our area to gather with Conservancy staff and volunteers to celebrate the ongoing successes of preserving land forever. With help from generous supporters, 90 miles of shoreline and nearly 32,000 acres of land have been permanently protected by the Conservancy.

Tickets to the Preservation Celebration are $75 and include dinner and beverages. For more information or to purchase a ticket, please visit www.gtrlc.org or call 231-929-7911.
