Great news for the residents and visitors of Arcadia. The Explore the Shores initiative that is making water accessible and barrier-free in Manistee County is starting another project!

ARCADIA TOWNSHIP – A project to make Arcadia’s Lake Michigan beach and facilities accessible to people of all ages, needs and abilities will be kicked off at Arcadia Beach Natural Area on Lake Michigan on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 at 2 p.m.

The project includes a universally accessible restroom, a picnic area, a renovated overlook and flexible “mobi-mats” to enable universal access to the Lake Michigan beach. The project is part of the Explore the Shores program.

The project was supported by a $300,000 grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and other local sources. The firm Beckett & Raeder is overseeing the project for the Township.

The Alliance for Economic Success developed the Land Trust Fund Grant application for the Township.
The event will include representatives from Arcadia Township, community members and nonprofit organizations that have supported the project.

The event will be held at the end of Lake Street off of M-22. The public and media are invited to attend.
