Dear SMARTrail (Sensational Manistee Area Recreational Trails -formally known as the Manistee County Trail) Committee and Friends,
The community of Manistee County is invited to participate in a discussion about extending the width of the M55 bridge near the intersection of M55 and US31 to accommodate snowmobiles, walkers/hikers, and cyclists. MDOT will completely replace the bridge in 2020 and it has been suggested that this may be an opportunity to provide a designated trail over the Manistee River. The Alliance for Economic Success will be the neutral facilitators of the meeting. This is not a formal public hearing but rather a community discussion to inform and to allow you to provide your comments about the project.
The meeting will be held:
April 3rd at 6:30pm at the Manistee High School in the choir room
Attached is a fact sheet prepared by MDOT that outlines three potential options for the bridge extension (and let us not forget a 4th, Do Nothing at this Time, option).
The agenda for the meeting is as follows:
- SMARTrail Committee Presentation
- MDOT Presentation
- Question/Answer Session (observing the 3 min. rule per speaker)
Jeff Dontz, Manistee County Commission Chair, and Dennis Bjorkquist, Manistee Township Supervisor, will be in attendance to listen to the comments made by the community.
The invitation may also be seen on the newly created SMARTrail Facebook page, AES website, and AES Facebook page. I encourage you to spread the word verbally and by forwarding this email to your community’s public officials and residents to inform and invite as many folks as possible to the meeting.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me.
in service to the Alliance for Economic Success
